Helping Lauren Unlock the Full Potential of Her Home Technology (AV and Security)

At Ameritechs, one of our favorite parts of the job is helping customers make sense of the technology they inherit when buying a new home. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Lauren, who moved into a property that came with a wide range of AV equipment, Polk and Sonos speakers, rock speakers in the yard, and a full security camera system. The only challenge? None of it was working the way it should, and she wasn’t sure where to begin.

The Challenge

Lauren’s home was packed with great equipment—from an NVR with the iVMS app to indoor and outdoor speakers—but most of it had been left unconfigured by the previous homeowner. Her security cameras weren’t online, the living room system wasn’t functional, and she needed someone to not only fix things but also teach her how to actually use it all.

Step 1: Bringing the Entertainment System Back to Life

On our first visit, our team got the living room speakers working, ran an HDMI check on the cameras, re-connected the outdoor speakers, and made sure the Apple TV was up and running. For the first time, Lauren could enjoy the sound system and streaming services that were already in her home.

Step 2: Restoring Her Security System

On our second visit, we tackled the surveillance setup. The cameras were offline, so we reset the NVR admin account, updated the DNS server, and brought the system back online. We also got her Guardian account connected, ensuring she could monitor her home from her phone with ease.

Step 3: Fine-Tuning and Organizing

Finally, we came back to complete the setup and make everything seamless. We installed an audio receiver, paired the Apple TV with two remotes, handled cable management, and troubleshot speaker performance throughout the home. The result was a polished, easy-to-use system that delivered both great sound and reliable home security.
