Bringing a 15-Year-Old Community Audio System Up to Date
Del Sur Community Association had relied on the same audio system for roughly 15 years. When the music stopped working as expected, the question wasn’t simply what equipment needed replacing. Del Sur needed a system that made sense for how its community spaces are actually used today.
Del Sur manages shared spaces where audio is used both indoors and outdoors, including for community gatherings and holiday events. Over time, however, an aging system and limited controls had made something as simple as playing music more complicated than it needed to be.
When Playing Music Became the Problem
When Del Sur first contacted Ameritechs, the existing amplifiers appeared to be working, but music wasn’t playing through the system as expected.
The immediate problem also raised a bigger question. After roughly 15 years, did the entire audio system need to be replaced, or were there parts of the existing setup that could still be useful?
How people controlled the system mattered just as much as getting sound back. Audio had primarily been managed through a dedicated iPad or tablet, while community events sometimes called for music from other Apple or Android devices.
And with offices, common area and outdoor spaces all sharing the system, Del Sur needed more control over where that audio played, not necessarily the same music everywhere at once.
Modernizing the Controls, Keeping What Still Worked
Ameritechs approached the project by first determining what could stay and what needed to change, rather than assuming a 15-year-old system had to be completely replaced.
The updated system separates the property into three audio zones: Offices, Common Area and Outdoor. This gives Del Sur more flexibility to control audio based on which spaces are actually being used.
Ameritechs installed a new preamp as the system’s main source, added new amplification where needed, and retained existing equipment that could continue serving the system.
Just as importantly, the way people interact with the audio was updated. Del Sur can manage the system through an iPad, while compatible Apple and Android devices on the appropriate network can connect to play audio, particularly useful when music is needed for community events.
Cleaning Up 15 Years of Equipment
Modernizing the system also meant sorting through what had accumulated behind the scenes.
Ameritechs removed equipment that was no longer needed, organized the existing equipment setup, and completed the cabling and connections required for the updated system. The goal wasn’t to add more technology for the sake of it, but to leave Del Sur with a setup that was easier to understand and use going forward.
Three Spaces, Simpler Control
Several months after the installation, Del Sur now has an audio system built around how its spaces are actually used.
Instead of relying on the previous control setup, staff can manage audio across three separate zones and connect compatible devices when music is needed for events.
