Closing a Security Gap at Pinnacle Marina Tower
After repeated attempts to gain unauthorized entry through a frequently used side door, Pinnacle Marina Tower needed to address a security concern that its existing camera setup wasn’t fully solving.
Pinnacle Marina Tower is a large residential HOA in downtown San Diego with an existing surveillance system throughout the property. But as residents began reporting activity around one particular entrance, simply having a camera nearby wasn’t enough.
Repeated Attempts at the Same Entrance
The side entrance is part of residents’ everyday access to the building. After multiple attempts to gain entry through the door, residents reported the incidents and raised concerns about safety.
There was already a camera near the entrance, but its position left limitations in what management could see. Someone standing close to the door could potentially remain outside the camera’s most useful field of view.
For Pinnacle, the question became less about adding another camera and more about figuring out how the existing surveillance could better address what was actually happening at the entrance.
Finding the Right Coverage for the Problem
Ameritechs worked with Pinnacle’s property management to determine where additional cameras should go, which angles would provide useful coverage, and how the entrance could be better monitored.
Ameritechs ultimately added two 8MP ColorVu Active Deterrence network cameras around the entrance and connected them to Pinnacle’s existing surveillance system.
The additional views reduced the property’s reliance on the original camera angle, while recording, intrusion-event, alert, audio and strobe capabilities added more ways for the system to respond to activity around the entrance.
Building on What Pinnacle Already Had
Addressing the entrance didn’t require starting over with an entirely separate surveillance system.
Ameritechs ran two new Cat6 connections to support the additional cameras, using existing pathways where possible and adding new conduit where needed. Exterior connections were weatherproofed and the new runs were tested before the cameras were brought online.
Once installed, both cameras were added to Pinnacle’s existing NVR and configured as part of the surveillance system already in place.
A Stronger Response to a Recurring Security Concern
For Pinnacle Marina Tower, the result goes beyond having two additional cameras at the door.
The entrance that had become a recurring concern now has additional coverage integrated into the building’s existing surveillance system. But for property management, the experience wasn’t only about the equipment that was installed. It was also about having a team willing to look at the problem with them, work through the options, and stay involved beyond simply completing the installation.
