Designing Coverage for the Entire Community

Ameritechs began with a detailed site assessment and property-wide coverage plan. Instead of simply replacing the cameras in their existing locations, we evaluated roadways, intersections, entrances, shared facilities, parking areas, pedestrian gates, and other locations where usable video evidence would be most valuable.

The resulting design combined multiple technologies into one integrated security system:

• 8MP IP security cameras

• Active-deterrence cameras

• Dedicated license plate capture cameras

• Pan-tilt-zoom cameras for broader situational awareness

• Long-range wireless network bridges

• Solar-powered remote camera stations

• Centralized video recording

• Mobile and desktop remote viewing

• Cloud-managed access control

Upgrading From Analog to 8MP IP Cameras

The outdated analog cameras were replaced with modern 8MP IP cameras capable of producing significantly clearer video during the day and at night.

The additional resolution allows management to see details that were difficult or impossible to distinguish with the previous system. Camera placement was also redesigned to provide useful views of internal streets, intersections, common areas, parking areas, gates, and community facilities.

Management can now review live and recorded video from a computer or mobile device without needing to be physically present at the community office.

Active Deterrence Instead of Passive Recording

Selected cameras were equipped with active-deterrence capabilities. When configured rules are triggered, these cameras can activate visible warning lights and an audible message or alarm.

This gives management a way to discourage unwanted activity while it is happening instead of relying exclusively on video after an incident has already occurred. The features can be adjusted for the needs of each location to reduce unnecessary activations and avoid disrupting residents.

Capturing License Plates and Vehicle Activity

Because vehicles had been running stop signs, becoming involved in accidents, and even striking the main gate, general overview cameras were not enough.

Ameritechs installed dedicated license plate capture cameras at strategically selected locations. These cameras were positioned and configured specifically to capture identifying vehicle information as cars enter, exit, or travel through critical areas of the community.

The new system provides management with clearer information when investigating:

• Stop-sign violations

• Vehicle accidents

• Gate damage

• Unauthorized vehicles

• Resident complaints and disputes

• Other traffic-related incidents

This has reduced uncertainty and given management more reliable evidence when questions arise.

Reaching Areas Without Power or Network Cabling

Providing broad coverage across the community was the most technically challenging part of the project. Many of the desired camera locations did not have an accessible electrical supply or a practical path for underground network cabling.

Ameritechs addressed this by engineering a combination of long-range wireless bridges and solar-powered camera stations.

Wireless bridges transmit camera data across the property to the central recording system without requiring new cabling across every roadway or hillside. At remote locations without dependable utility power, solar panels, charge controllers, and battery systems provide continuous power to the cameras and network equipment.

This approach allowed cameras to be placed according to the community’s security needs—not simply where power and cabling happened to be available.

Securing Shared Facilities With Access Control

The project also included a cloud-managed access control system for community facilities and pedestrian entrances.

Electronic locking hardware and credential readers were installed at locations such as the clubhouse, pool, laundry room, and pedestrian gates. Residents can use assigned credentials instead of easily copied traditional keys.

Management can now:

• Add or remove credentials without rekeying doors

• Set access schedules for specific facilities

• Review access activity and audit trails

• Disable lost credentials

• Manage the system remotely

• Adjust access as residents and staff change

The access control and surveillance systems work together to give management better oversight of both vehicle activity and pedestrian access.
