A Lesson From College That Stuck With Me

One of my favorite classes at UC Davis focused on how people experience physical spaces — how lighting, sound, activity, and even scent can completely change how a space feels.

For a paper in that class, I wrote about the living room of my fraternity house. It wasn’t just a living room — it was a meeting room, a game room, a dining room, a dance floor.

Each time the activity changed, so did the space. The lighting would dim or brighten. The music would shift. The furniture would move. That room adapted to the energy it needed — and it created an environment that felt right.

That lesson stuck with me, and today it shapes the way we approach every project at Ameritechs.
